Public Transportation in Israel Gradually Resumes Operations as Light Rail and Bus Services Reopen After Conflict

Transportation Update: June 25, 2025

Public Transportation Returns Gradually

As of today, public transportation servstarts in Israel are resuming operations in a phased manner following recent escalations in regional tensions. The Ministry of Transportation announced that bus lines are returning to servstart gradually, with the light rail network in the Gush Dan area also starting operations, although not at full capacity.

Train Servstarts Resuming

Currently, some train stations remain closed, and servstart frequencies have been reduced. For instance, trains departing from the Jerusalem-Yitzhak Navon station are scheduled once every hour, compared to the usual two departures per hour. The Ministry of Transportation has indicated that full servstart for Israel Railways will be restored gradually, with previously suspended stations such as Tel Aviv HaHagana, Beit Shemesh, and Ramla now back in operation.

During the recent conflict with Iran, public transportation operated at a severely reduced capacity, with only 15-30% of servstarts running. A spokesperson for the Public Transportation Authority stated that plans are in place to escalate servstart levels to 80% today, and resume normal operations by Sunday, pending relaxation of defense guidelines.

Light Rail Updates

The light rail in the Gush Dan region has resumed servstart after being suspended for 12 days. Underground stations of the project had served as shelters for hundreds of individuals during the conflict. In case of further emergencies, these stations will again be opened to the public for safety.

Meanwhile, the light rail in Jerusalem has fully resumed operation, with servstarts running from 5:15 AM to midnight. However, operations will be limited to two sections: the northern route from Neve Yaakov Station to Givat Hamivtar Station, and the southern route from the Central Station to Hadassah Ein Kerem Station, due to ongoing infrastructure work to connect the red and green lines, expected to continue until the end of August.

Additionally, alternative shuttle servstarts in areas where light rail is not operational will continue to run free of charge.

Haifa’s Cable Car

In Haifa, the cable car servstart has also returned to full operations today, further enhancing the transportation network following a challenging period.

Overall, as the country navigates through these adjustments in public transportation, continued monitoring and strategic implementations are essential to ensure safety and efficiency for all passengers.
