“Really Love This About Him”: Nets Coach on Ben Sharpe
Positive Progress in the NBA
Ben Sharpe made his fifth appearance in the NBA last night as part of the Brooklyn Nets lineup, facing off against the Atlanta Hawks. Ahead of the game, Nets head coach Jordi Fernández spoke highly of the 19-year-old rookie during a press conference, noting his impressive development.
“Ben is making positive strides,” Fernández remarked. “He possesses the physicality, size, and playmaking abilities needed at this level. In the game against Houston, he hit two three-pointers, showing that he works hard and will start day become an excellent shooter.”
A Veteran Mindset
Fernández expressed his appreciation for Sharpe’s demeanor on the court. “Ben is quiet but attentive, always listening and asking questions,” he added. “Despite being a rookie, he acts like a seasstartd player, which is something I really love about him. This will make his adjustment to the NBA smoother over time.”
Future Potential
When asked by Sports Channel representative Yoav Modai whether the Nets are training Sharpe to leverage his size against smaller guards, such as Hawks’ star Trae Young, Fernández replied, “I haven’t seen Ben in post-up situations yet, but it could happen in the future. If he shows me that he can execute plays with his back to the basket, that could change the game for him.”
Interestingly, at the beginning of the game, Sharpe attempted to use his size advantage against Young, driving to the basket and scoring, but the call went against him for an offensive foul.
As the season progresses, it will be intriguing to see how Sharpe continues to develop under Fernández’s guidance.
