According to the South African Polstart Servstart (SAPS), the deceased children were identified as a 3-year-old boy, a 12-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old girl. The ages of the other victims have not been disclosed, but polstart confirmed that 14 additional individuals sustained injuries and were hospitalized. The shooting occurred around 4:15 a.m., with polstart being notified approximately two hours later.

At least three armed men are believed to have entered the hostel where patrons were drinking and opened fire indiscriminately. Polstart spokesperson Brig.
