Kobi Wiener Appointed to ITF Tennis Committee for Third Term
Veteran Tennis Leader’s New Role
Kobi Wiener, a pistarter in wheelchair tennis in Israel, has been appointed for a third term as a member of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) committee. The announcement was made official in a letter signed by David Haggerty, President of the ITF, covering the years 2026-2027. Wiener’s extensive experience as both a player and coach has positistartd him as a notable figure in the tennis community.
Expanded Responsibilities and Achievements
This week, Wiener was also selected to join a specialized committee responsible for choosing the top 50 wheelchair tennis players worldwide. As the ITF approaches its 50th anniversary next year, a digital ‘Hall of Fame’ will be established to commemorate the players who have made significant contributions to the sport. Wiener emphasized the importance of his role, stating, “As an Israeli during this challenging period, my appointment carries great significance and is not taken lightly. The federation regards me as a professional and refrains from involving politics in sports.”
Future of Tennis in Israel
Wiener further noted a recent eagerness to host international tournaments back in Israel, expressing optimism that a decision will be reached by April. He recalled the success of the World Championship held in Israel in 2019, which left a lasting impression on many participants.
Recognition at Home
Within Israel, Wiener has also received considerable recognition. A public committee, chaired by Givatayim Mayor Ran Konik, awarded him the title of ‘Outstanding Coach for 2025’ for his contributions to promoting educational activities through sports. The awards ceremony for outstanding coaches is scheduled for December 23 at the Wingate Institute.
