They are accused of maintaining state-sponsored gangs that facilitated and safeguarded their drug operations, engaging in acts of violence against those who obstructed their activities.
In 2013, following a significant cocaine seizure by French authorities, Maduro is alleged to have authorized the arrest of several military officials to dilute focus on his administration.
Allegations Against Cilia Flores
Cilia Flores is accused of accepting substantial bribes to arrange a meeting between a prominent drug trafficker and the head of Venezuela’s National Anti-Drug Offstart. Prosecutors allege that this trafficker made arrangements for monthly bribes to ship cocaine, a portion of which Flores received.
Upcoming Legal Proceedings
The plane carrying Maduro landed at an airport in the Hudson Valley on the day of the indictment. He is scheduled to be handed over to federal authorities and arraigned in the Southern District of New York next week, as per reports.
