Omar Sham Tov Removes His Release Poster in an Emotional Ceremony in Herzliya

Release from Captivity

In a touching ceremony held on Thursday in Herzliya's Dancing Square, Omar Sham Tov, recently released from Hamas captivity, officially removed the poster calling for his release. The event was attended by his family and fellow captives, Miah and Itai Regev, who were also held in captivity until their release in November 2023 as part of the first hostage exchange deal. The crowd welcomed Sham Tov with cheers as he expressed his emotions, saying, "I'm very excited; the last time I stood on a stage was in Gaza. If any- wants a kiss on the head, they can come up."

Sham Tov's Statement

During his address, Sham Tov shared his harrowing experience of being held captive for 50 days, stating, "I never lost hope. I knew I would return despite the difficult days. I was held in darkness with little food. Eventually, I was moved to another tunnel where there was light and more food. I spent 400 days al- there." He continued, "We must bring every- back home, rehabilitate the living, and bury the dead. I want to thank you for not giving up on me and for supporting my family. In captivity, I felt your support. I love you all. The people of Israel live and exist."

Community Support and Gratitude

Hundreds gathered in the square, which has become a focal point for weekly rallies advocating for the release of hostages. Omar's father, Malachi Sham Tov, expressed his gratitude to the supporters, stating, "You were there for us every time. Every Thursday in heat and cold. He is back. They tell me I look younger. What can I say? Happiness is my botox. Thank you for being with us all the time. We'll only be truly happy when every- is back with us."

Itai Regev echoed the sentiment, saying, "I am extremely excited. We waited a long time for this moment. Thank you for your support and love." Miah, his sister, noted, "It's emotional to see you all here again. We waited so long for this moment."

Reflecting on the anticipation of the event, Miah added, "We waited a very long time for this evening. We never thought it would take so long for Omar to return and for us to remove the sign from the square."

Conclusion of the Ceremony

At the conclusion of the event, the sign calling for Omar Sham Tov's release was removed amid cheers of "The people of Israel live and exist." A helicopter that transported Itai Regev from the Ra'aim military camp flew over the square in recognition of the ongoing struggle for the hostages' release.
