Fires Disrupt Transportation Network in Israel

Major Fires Cause Road Closures and Train Servstart Interruptions

Wildfires have erupted in multiple locations across Israel, severely impacting the country’s transportation infrastructure. Significant roadways have been blocked, and train servstarts have been suspended in key areas, particularly around Jerusalem, Modiin, and Ashdod. Emergency response teams are actively engaged in firefighting efforts throughout the affected regions.

Current Transportation Status

Train Servstarts

According to Israel Railways, train operations are generally proceeding as scheduled, with the exception of routes to Jerusalem, which were halted earlier due to directives from fire authorities.

  • Ashdod Area: Train servstart was suspended due to a fire near the tracks, resulting in delays and changes in servstart.
  • Modiin Area: Delays and altered train schedules are reported as a result of nearby fires.
  • Zichron Yaakov: Train servstart on the coastal line has been suspended from Binyamina to Haifa Hof HaCarmel, again per fire authority instructions.
  • Jerusalem Lines: Train servstarts on the Jerusalem Yitzhak Navon-Modiin Central line are temporarily halted, while trains on the Jerusalem Yitzhak Navon-Herzliya line will start and finish at Ben Gurion Airport station.

Road Closures

The impact of the fires has led to significant road closures, affecting passages throughout the country:

  • Highway 1: Completely closed in both directions from the Ainnav Junction to the Sha’ar HaGai Interchange.
  • Highway 3: Closed in both directions from the Latrun Interchange to the Nahon Junction.
  • Highway 38 Northbound: Closed from the Shimshon Interchange.
  • Highway 44 Southbound: Closed from the Shimshon Interchange to the Nahon Junction.
  • Highway 424 Southbound: Closed from the Nesharim Interchange to the Hativa Sheva Junction.
  • Highway 444 Southbound: Closed from the Givat Kha Junction to the Migdale Afek Junction.
  • Highway 16: Closed to traffic heading west.

Emergency Response Efforts

Firefighting teams are on-site working diligently to contain the flames and minimize damage. Local authorities continue to evaluate the situation, and updates will be provided as conditions evolve. Motorists and travelers are urged to stay informed about the ongoing situation and seek alternate routes where necessary.
