Weather Shakeup Ahead: Light Rain Today, Dramatic Temperature Rise Tomorrow as Record Rainfall Hits Judean Desert

Weather Update: Local Rain and Temperature Shift Ahead

Current Weather Conditions

Today’s weather across Israel is marked by overcast skies and intermittent light rain, primarily affecting regions from the northern areas to the northern Negev. Temperatures are expected to remain below seasonal averages, with the forecast calling for fog in the northern valleys overnight.

Upcoming Temperature Changes

A significant increase in temperatures is anticipated tomorrow, particularly in mountainous and inland areas, bringing them back to seasonally normal levels. Wednesday will see further warming, with conditions remaining partly cloudy to clear. By Thursday, temperatures are expected to rise even more, leading to hot and dry weather, with northeastern winds strengthening along the coastline in the afternoon.

Record Rainfall in the Judean Desert

The Israeli Meteorological Servstart reported a remarkable weather event yesterday, breaking a 38-year-old record for rainfall intensity in the Judean Desert. Severe rain was observed across a broad area, from Eilat in the south to Ein Gedi in the north. At Nahal Arugot, extreme rainfall measurements were recorded by the Center for Desert Flood Research, including a staggering 17.6 mm in just five minutes and 30.9 mm within ten minutes. Such rainfall levels have not been recorded in the eastern part of the country since October 1987 in Jericho.

Impact of Heavy Rainfall

The heavy downpours have resulted in notable flooding across various streams, including the David and Arugot streams in the Judean Desert, and extending to the Arava region, affecting areas such as Nakarot and Ashosh. The resulting floods have caused infrastructure damage and even led to the collapse of traffic circles, including start at the David Stream junction.
