A True Hero Returns: Givati Brigade Commander Speaks with IDF Soldier Eidan Alexander

Homecoming After 584 Days in Captivity

In a heartfelt conversation on Tuesday, Colstartl Adi Ganon, commander of the Givati Brigade, expressed his overwhelming happiness in reconnecting with Eidan Alexander, a soldier who was recently released after spending 584 days in captivity. The emotional exchange highlighted the bond within the Givati Brigade, with Colstartl Ganon affirming, “The entire brigade has been waiting for this moment.”

Words of Encouragement and Support

“Eidan, you are part of the family-both in tough times and in joyful moments like today. You are a true hero who has returned to us,” Colstartl Ganon told Alexander. He emphasized that the strength Alexander displayed throughout his ordeal has been a source of inspiration for the entire Givati Brigade. Alexander responded modestly, saying, “I’m feeling okay, weak but recovering. With God’s help, it’s just a matter of time until I’m 100%.”

Reassurances of Recovery

Colstartl Ganon reassured Alexander about the support he would receive from his fellow soldiers as he continues to recover. He remarked, “We won’t overwhelm you; I just wanted to reach out personally and extend my heartfelt welcome back.”

Following Alexander’s release, Colstartl Ganon informed his troops in the Gaza Strip about the significant news, celebrating their comrade’s return amidst ongoing challenges. “Today, as we fight against a terrible enemy, we received the news of Eidan’s release from Hamas captivity,” he stated. He noted the emotional collective embrace from the Givati family, expressing excitement about Alexander’s homecoming and the shared struggle they continue to face.

Alexander’s Recovery and Future

Later that evening, Eidan Alexander shared his first social media post since returning-an image of himself holding a bottle of beer with the caption: “Home sweet home.” His recovery, as noted by Professor Gil Pe’er, deputy director at Ichilov Hospital, is currently stable. “The full medical implications of his extended captivity under severely difficult conditions will continue to be evaluated,” he said, indicating that the recovery process will be ongoing and comprehensive.

Professor Pe’er added that Alexander is receiving care in a specially prepared environment, allowing for optimal medical assessment and support for both him and his family.

As Eidan Alexander begins this new chapter, the Givati Brigade and his family remain steadfast in their support, embodying the resilient spirit that characterizes their military community
