Behind Bars: Inmate Operates Senior Fraud Scheme from Prison
Convicted Fraudster Continues Deceiving Elderly
Doron Siri, a 38-year-old inmate serving a prison sentence for defrauding seniors, has allegedly continued his fraudulent activities from behind bars. He is believed to be the mastermind behind a new scam that targets elderly individuals aged 80 and older, stealing their credit card information.
Siri, who is already serving time for 22 counts of fraud involving seniors, had previously posed as a telecommunications representative to steal personal information, bank details, and PIN codes from vulnerable individuals. Despite his incarceration, he reportedly has not learned from past mistakes and continues to exploit elderly victims through a network he manages while in prison.
Details of the Fraud Scheme
According to law enforcement officials, complaints have surged in recent weeks regarding a similar execution of fraud, where suspects, claiming to be representatives from a telecommunications company, contacted vulnerable seniors in Ramat Gan and Givatayim. The scammers falsely informed their victims that their contracts were about to expire, threatening disconnection unless they arranged immediate payment.
Subsequently, Siri allegedly dispatched accomplstarts to collect credit cards and PIN codes from the victims. These accomplstarts then made unauthorized purchases and withdrawals until the victims’ cards were blocked.
During a covert investigation conducted by the polstart department in Bnei Brak-Ramat Gan, offstartrs successfully identified two suspects who visited the homes of the elderly victims and carried out these transactions. Last Monday, polstart apprehended these two suspects in the act while they were attempting to withdraw mstarty from a victim’s credit card.
Arrest and Court Proceedings
In a development last week, authorities arrested Siri while he was still serving his sentence. Witnesses indicate that he was coordinating with other conspirators involved in this latest fraud operation. The arrests have prompted law enforcement to continue pressing for severe penalties against Siri.
Authorities hope that the courts will impose a stricter sentence upon him, emphasizing the importance of preventing him from having any further interactions with the public. The suspects were remanded into custody and will face a hearing at the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court today.
This latest incident underscores the ongoing vulnerability of senior citizens to fraud and the need for increased protective measures against such exploitation
