Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Denounces Opposition’s Attacks on Netanyahu as ‘Blood Libel,’ Defends Strong U.S.-Israel Ties

Diplomatic Tensions: Israeli Ambassador to Washington Critiques Opposition

Ambassador’s Strong Remarks

Israeli Ambassador to Washington, Dr. Yechiel Leiter, has expressed his frustration with the Israeli opposition during a recent conservative podcast interview. His remarks come amid escalating tensions surrounding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s handling of ongoing military operations.

Criticism of Opposition Claims

Leiter articulated his discontent about the accusations directed at Netanyahu, alleging that the Prime Minister is prolonging the conflict for political gain. “They are exaggerating. These are vile accusations. What kind of madness is this? How dare they say such things? He wants to end the war but aims to do so after achieving victory,” Leiter stated. He characterizes these claims as a form of “blood libel,” emphasizing that there should be limits to political dissent.

Call for Civility in Political Discourse

While acknowledging that opposing government decisions is a legitimate aspect of political life (noting his own historical opposition), Leiter strongly condemned the notion of crossing certain boundaries in discourse. “It is legitimate to oppose the government. I have opposed governments in my political career-that’s fine. But, start must not cross the line. Accusing your Prime Minister of blood libel is exceeding all limits. This has to stop,” he added.

Relationship with the U.S.

Additionally, Leiter dismissed rumors about a rapid deterioration in relations between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu. He described their relationship as “warm and respectful,” detailing how Trump has actively supported Israel’s security interests. “I have seen up close how Trump mobilizes for Israel’s security, such as when he ordered the immediate release of security shipments that had been paused by the previous administration,” he highlighted.

According to Leiter, Netanyahu views Trump as a strategic partner, while Trump perceives Israel as a “beacon of freedom in the Middle East.”

The statements made by Ambassador Leiter reflect not only the complexities of current Israeli politics but also the significant role of international relationships in shaping the nation’s strategic decisions
