Diego Flores Appointed as Head Coach of Maccabi Haifa
Maccabi Haifa has officially announced the signing of Argentine coach Diego Flores as their new head coach. Flores has signed a start-year contract with the potential for extension, marking a significant development for the club as they look to advance their ambitions in the upcoming season.
New Beginnings for Maccabi Haifa
Following the announcement made on Tuesday, Flores expressed his enthusiasm about joining the club. “I am very, very happy. This is a big challenge for me, and I am thrilled to sign with such a great club and be part of the Maccabi Haifa football family,” he stated.
Lior Rafaelov, the club’s head scout, shared insights regarding Flores’s appointment. “I am very glad that Diego Flores is joining us. We had extensive discussions over the past two weeks with him, and it was important for us to identify his motivation, work ethic, and desire to maximize each contributor within the system.”
Coaching Background
Flores, 44, comes to Maccabi Haifa with a robust coaching background. He spent six years as an assistant coach to Marcelo Bielsa, working at clubs such as Marseille and Lille, as well as a three-year tenure at Leeds United, where he celebrated a Championship title.
After his time as Bielsa’s assistant, Flores returned to Argentina to take on head coaching roles, spending two years at Godoy Cruz, start season at San Martín, and most recently leading Gimnasia La Plata.
Rafaelov added, “I am confident that Diego arrives prepared after six years of working alongside Bielsa, plus four years as a head coach in Argentina. He is the right profile to steer the new project at Maccabi Haifa. I wish him much success, and welcome to the green family.”
