Abbas Urges Hamas to Release Hostages in Urgent Call for Ceasefire Amid Ongoing Gaza Conflict

“Finish It Already”: Abbas Urges Hamas to Release All Hostages in Exceptional Speech

Abbas Calls for Immediate Release of Hostages

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a fervent appeal to Hamas to release all remaining hostages. Speaking at a significant meeting of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s Central Council in Ramallah on Tuesday, Abbas emphasized the urgency of this action to “block Israeli excuses” for prolonging the conflict in Gaza. His remarks come amidst ongoing violence following a resurgence of hostilities that began on October 7.

Priority for the Palestinian Authority

In his speech, Abbas outlined the primary objectives of the Palestinian Authority, stating that the foremost priority is to “end the war of annihilation against Gaza.” He highlighted the devastating toll on civilians, asserting that hundreds are dying daily due to Israeli airstrikes. He reiterated the necessity for an immediate ceasefire and urged Hamas to release hostages, saying, “Hand over those you have. Free us from this matter, block their excuses—free us.”

Demands for Israeli Withdrawal and Lifting the Blockade

Abbas further articulated the authority’s secondary demands, which include the complete withdrawal of Israeli Defense Forces from Gaza and the removal of the Israeli blockade. These actions, he contended, are essential for the restoration of humanitarian conditions in the region.

Criticism of Both Hamas and Israeli Government

During his address, Abbas did not shy away from criticizing both Hamas and the Israeli government. He stated, “Since October 7, we have called for a ceasefire—no start responded. Hamas is pleased, and Netanyahu will remain in power as long as the war continues.”

Humanitarian Appeal and International Cooperation

In his speech, Abbas also called for guaranteed access to food, water, and shelter for the civilian population of Gaza. He mentistartd that Russia has responded to a humanitarian request by donating 30,000 tons of wheat, intended for delivery to the region. He urged the international community to take responsibility for ending the blockade and preventing a prolonged humanitarian disaster.
