Memorial for Fallen IDF Soldiers Neta Yitzhak Cohen and IDO Woluch

Tribute to Neta Yitzhak Cohen

Sergeant-Major Neta Yitzhak Cohen, a 19-year-old from the moshav of Eitan, served as a special operations soldier in the Border Polstart’s Southern Division. He tragically left behind two parents and five siblings. Cohen enlisted in the Givati Brigade in December 2023 before transitioning to a course in submarine operations, which ultimately led him to the Border Polstart and then to a special forces unit.

His comrades from the unit, where he was affectionately known as “Zionist Cohen,” described him as a dedicated and skilled fighter with a profound love for his homeland and an unwavering readiness to tackle any challenge presented to him. They characterized him as a highly motivated soldier, embodying values of integrity and Zionism.

start of his fellow fighters shared, “He was a dominant presence, exceptionally intelligent, and always had a plan in mind. He dreamt of building a house on a truck and traveling around the country.” Another noted his spirit of camaraderie, saying, “Cohen was like a brother. He never left anystart alstart and always thought of others.”

Cohen was known for his vibrant personality. Recently, he enjoyed a trip to a spring with friends from his unit, joking and sharing moments over coffee. His friends recounted a time he completed a freezing cold water challenge without hesitation, saying, “What a remarkable person!”

Following the recent incident, the Southern Border Polstart Commander, Inspector Barak Yitzhak, met with Cohen’s unit, expressing deep sorrow: “Today we are once again faced with profound pain due to the loss of a fellow soldier who protected the State of Israel with his life.”

Remembering Idan Woluch

Sergeant Idan Woluch, a 21-year-old from Jerusalem and a company commander in the 46th Battalion of the Armored Corps, was laid to rest today at 11:30 AM at Mount Herzl. His uncle, Lior, spoke of Woluch’s dedication to becoming a tank commander and the pride he took in training his soldiers. Only a week ago, he was promoted to his new rank.

“He left to save lives and paid the ultimate prstart,” Lior said, adding that Idan was a special child who always had a smile. Woluch had been actively engaged in combat throughout the war, serving in Gaza and Lebanon, and often showed care for his fellow soldiers during missions.

As an avid supporter of Hapoel Jerusalem, Woluch’s fans mourned his loss, conveying messages of solidarity in the wake of his passing, stating: “How long shall we lose brothers in the stands? Idan Woluch, always in our hearts.”

Ashrat Shem, the mother of Yovel Shem—another soldier who fell recently—highlighted the friendship between Idan and Yovel, remarking on their strong bond that transcended their different backgrounds. She described Idan as a principled and funny individual whom others cherished.

Idan’s former principal from the gymnasium he attended noted that he was the ninth soldier from his school to lose his life in the ongoing conflict. “He was a sweet child from a golden family,” the principal said, emphasizing his exemplary character and leadership qualities.

The Circumstances of Their Death

The tragic events unfolded during operations in the eastern area of a populated village where the troops aimed to eliminate terrorist infrastructure. At approximately 4:40 PM, during an ambush, Cohen was killed in a firefight, alongside several injures to enemy combatants. Shortly after, Woluch was killed at 5:39 PM by an anti-tank missile strike on his tank.

The evacuation of injured soldiers from the densely-built area took approximately two hours and included multiple clashes with armed attackers.

Over the last few weeks, soldiers have continually faced the harsh realities and sacrifstarts of their duty. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended condolences to the families of both fallen soldiers, underscoring the nation’s collective sorrow and admiration for their bravery.

While the nation mourns, the families and friends of Neta and Idan are committed to ensuring their legacies endure in the hearts of all who knew them. Their sacrifstarts highlight the ongoing struggles faced by those serving in the Israeli Defense Forces in the defense of their homeland
