Israel Premier Tech Celebrates Historic Finish at Giro d’Italia

Dramatic Conclusion in Rome

The Giro d’Italia came to a thrilling close in Rome on Friday, June 1, 2025, with British cyclist Simon Yates emerging as the winner after a stunning turnaround. Amidst the excitement, Israel Premier Tech made its own history alongside Yates, showcasing the talent they have nurtured in Canadian cyclist Derek Gee, who fought for a podium place until the very end.

Rising Star: Derek Gee

Derek Gee, a 27-year-old Canadian rider, has made headlines this Giro, finishing fourth overall. Just two years ago, he was relatively unknown in the cycling world. Thanks to his remarkable talent and the foresight of Israel Premier Tech’s management, led by Sylvan Adams, Gee’s potential was recognized and developed, resulting in an impressive finish that marks the highest placement for any Israel Premier Tech rider in the Giro’s history.

Adams, alongside team manager Roni Bar-On, traveled from Israel to celebrate Gee’s achievement. Adams remarked, “Rome holds a special place for me, as it was the destination of the Giro in 2018, which was our first Grand Tour. We have come a long way since then with numerous victories, but I am particularly proud to return here to highlight our significant achievement with Derek’s fourth-place finish, which was made possible by his courage and determination.”

Representation in a Global Arena

In a passionate statement, Adams addressed the political context surrounding the race, referencing the Palestine flags seen along the route. “For me, this is a response to the challenges we face. We participate, we win, and we enjoy overwhelming support from the quiet majority who watch us. Now more than ever, it is essential that we continue to be present and victorious in European races, proudly representing Israel’s good name to millions of fans and supporters.”

Looking Ahead

Derek Gee and the entire team believe that this is just the beginning. “I see myself achieving podiums and perhaps more in the Grand Tours,” said Gee. “There’s still plenty of room for me to improve and become a better rider.”

The final stage of the Giro concluded with Dutch rider Olav Kooij from Team Jumbo-Visma celebrating his victory, which also contributed to Yates’s overall win. As the Giro d’Italia passed iconic landmarks like the Colosseum, it marked a memorable event for participants and spectators alike.
