Ashdod Women’s Basketball Team Clinches Championship Title
Triumph in the Final Game
Maccabi Ashdod Women’s Basketball Team achieved a remarkable victory in the decisive fifth game of the Athna League championship series, defeating Hapoel Rishon Lezion with a score of 76-60. This victory marks the seventh championship title in the club’s history and completes a prestigious treble, having also secured the State Cup and the Winner Cup earlier this season.
Emotional Reactions
Following the final buzzer, the reactions from the victorious team were particularly moving. Coach Shira Ha’alion expressed her joy and pride, stating, “There is no greater privilege than this – I am simply happy. The feelings are incredible. To win three titles in start season: the Winner Cup, the State Cup, and the Championship is a dream. There is no greater honor for a coach and the club.” Ha’alion credited her success to her dedicated staff, especially the chairperson and the professional manager, Ori Ben Simon, along with her assistant coach and the talented players.
“I am delighted that we could make the fans and Ashdod feel what they are feeling now,” Ha’alion added. “I have always told the players – it’s not over until it’s over. With their backs against the wall, they always managed to rise to the occasion, which is the unique character of this team. I feel privileged to coach a group of warriors and to claim the championship with them and my staff.”
Captain’s Reflections
Captain Dor Saar, equally emotional post-game, said, “Of course we believed – and it’s only when you believe that you can achieve this. Game four weighed heavily on us; we did not show up as we should have, and I personally take a lot of responsibility for that. There are no excuses. I am just happy we managed to learn from that and come into this game more prepared. I couldn’t be happier to bring this title to our amazing club.”
Looking ahead to the future, Saar expressed hopes for European competitions, stating, “I really hope that Europe will be on the agenda next season. There is no glass ceiling – the more we believe and aim high, the more we can achieve.”
The victory not only highlights the team’s resilience and determination but also sets a high standard for the upcoming season as they look to continue their success on the court
