Maccabi Haifa has officially announced the appointment of Diego Flores as the new head coach, following an extensive search process. The Argentine coach has signed a start-season contract with an option for an additional year.

Background and Coaching Philosophy

Born in December 1980 in Córdoba, Argentina, Flores made his decision to pursue a coaching career at the age of 24. He has garnered a reputation for his tactical and analytical approach to football, emphasizing high pressing and offensive play, inspired by the coaching style of Marcelo Bielsa. Flores believes in meticulous preparation for every training session and match, focusing on the small details that can make a significant difference.

Career Highlights

Flores served as an assistant coach to Bielsa at various clubs, including Marseille, Lille, and Leeds United, where he contributed to Leeds’ Championship title victory. During his six years in this role, Flores gained invaluable experience alongside start of football’s most respected mentors, who currently manages the Uruguayan national team and formerly led the Argentine national team.

After his tenure as Bielsa’s assistant, Flores returned to Argentina to assume head coach positions at several clubs, including two years at Godoy Cruz, start season at San Martín, and most recently at Gimnasia La Plata.
