Ownership Transition on the Horizon for Maccabi Netanya
Committee Meeting to Finalize Ownership Transfer
The long-awaited moment is approaching for Maccabi Netanya as the committee overseeing ownership rights is set to convene again today. This meeting follows the committee’s initial gathering less than a week ago, aiming to reach a definitive decision on the transfer of ownership from current owner Eyal Segal to the Eliya Group, led by businessman Ross Castin.
Sources indicate that the purchasing group is expected to submit final amendments prior to the meeting, and barring any major surprises, Netanya is poised to embark on a new era with the ownership transfer likely to receive formal approval tomorrow. The meeting will be conducted virtually over Zoom due to ongoing flight disruptions, which have prevented Castin from attending in person as initially planned.
Team Strengthening Efforts
In the meantime, Maccabi Netanya continues to bolster its squad as part of its preparations for the new season. Financial terms have been agreed upon with striker Wilson Harris, who, however, is currently reluctant to travel to Israel due to recent tensions following the conclusion of the conflict with Iran. Netanya will wait a few more days for Harris’ decision before possibly pursuing alternative candidates.
Additionally, players Mohammed Jetay and Roberto Tabares are expected to arrive in Israel by the end of the week in order to join team training. Frederick Vargas may also join later, likely only for the pre-season training camp.
Defensive Prospects and Coaching Changes
As the club explores further defensive options, Netanya has been evaluating potential foreign defenders, amidst reports suggesting that Jetay, who was close to signing in Thailand, will remain with the team for now. However, changes may be imminent as the transfer window progresses.
Alongside these player movements, Netanya is also expecting changes within its coaching staff. Analyst Doron Aharon is set to depart for the newly promoted Hapoel Petah Tikva, and Abiel Zamaro, who previously worked at Bnei Sakhnin, is anticipated to join Netanya.
With the club making strides on multiple fronts, the upcoming ownership approval could signify a pivotal moment in their history
