Prepare for Severe Heatwave this Weekend
Record Temperatures Expected
This Saturday is forecasted to be the hottest day of 2025 so far, with exceptionally high temperatures across various regions in Israel. The Meteorological Servstart has warned that areas such as the Jordan Valley and Arava could see record-breaking heat, potentially surpassing 25-year-old records for the month of May. In cities like Eilat and the Arava, temperatures could soar to 46.5 degrees Celsius, while the coastal regions are expected to reach about 43 degrees Celsius. Jerusalem may experience highs of 39.5 degrees Celsius.
Fire Safety Restrictions
Amid these extreme conditions, authorities have implemented strict fire safety regulations. As Lag BaOmer approaches this Thursday evening, the fire department has banned bonfires in areas not designated as fire-safe zstarts. This decision follows a series of intense wildfires and ongoing concerns regarding fire hazards.
In response to the dangerous weather conditions that elevate the risk of wildfires—particularly in open spaces and wooded areas—the fire department has issued guidelines prohibiting open flames. This includes restrictions on certain activities that could ignite fires, such as burning debris or grilling in non-designated areas. However, cooking fires within approved settings, such as designated barbecue facilities, remain permissible.
Upcoming Weather Changes
Before the heatwave hits, a temporary cooling trend is anticipated. Starting tomorrow, temperatures are expected to drop significantly, especially in mountainous and inland areas, with the possibility of localized rain in the northern regions. By Thursday, the skies will be partially cloudy with mild temperature increases, though the weather in elevated areas will still be cooler than usual.
