Extreme Heat Wave Sweeps Israel: Severe Heat and Dust Storms Expected Across the Region

Severe Heatwave and Dust Conditions Expected Across the Country

Overview of Weather Conditions

A significant heatwave is set to impact most regions of the country, with severe heat and humidity particularly pronounced in the south. Temperatures are expected to rise sharply, leading to extreme heat in the Arava and Jordan Valley regions. The Dead Sea area may see temperatures nearing 40°C, while Tel Aviv is forecasted to reach 35°C and Beit She’an could soar to 41°C. The oppressive heat is anticipated to persist until Thursday, with a gradual return to more typical temperatures by Friday.

Current Weather and Local Effects

Today, significant temperature increases will be evident throughout the country, ushering in oppressive conditions. In southern regions, winds are expected to strengthen, creating dusty conditions, with localized dust storms likely in various areas. The skies will generally be partially to mostly cloudy with medium to high cloud coverage.

During the night, cloudiness will increase, and strong southwest winds are expected in the hills, with a continued chance for dust. The Mediterranean Sea is projected to see wave heights ranging from 30 to 60 centimeters.

Regional Heat Conditions

  • Extreme Heat: Severe heat conditions will prevail in the Jordan Valley and Arava.
  • Heavy Heat: The coastal plain, foothills, northern Negev, Judean Desert, and eastern Negev will also face heavy heat.
  • Moderate Heat: Areas like the southern Golan Heights, western Galilee, northern valleys, lower Galilee, Carmel Ridge, Menashe Heights, central mountains, and Negev highlands will experience moderate heat levels.

For tomorrow, oppressive heat will continue across most regions. Strong winds will start from the morning in the south, contributing to dusty conditions throughout the country. Increasing winds in northern areas will eventually bring cooler and more humid air to the region.

Upcoming Changes

A change in weather patterns is anticipated on Thursday when the oppressive heat will begin to dissipate. Conditions will shift to partly cloudy with a notable drop in temperatures, although it will still be warmer than average in the hills and the interior regions. By Friday, temperatures are forecasted to drop further, returning to seasonal averages with partly cloudy to clear weather.
