Hamas Backs Potential Iran-US Nuclear Agreement, Claiming It Could Strengthen Support for Palestinians

Hamas Supports Potential Iran-US Nuclear Agreement: “It Will Help Palestinians”

Iran’s Nuclear Aspirations

Iran’s nuclear program continues to develop as the country’s Nuclear Program Chief, Mohammad Eslami, announced on state television that the nation is constructing a nuclear power plant using local resources. He characterized this development as a symbol of national pride and industrial strength. Eslami emphasized that the new facility, built entirely with domestic expertise and fuel, showcases Iran’s engineering capabilities.

Eslami firmly dismissed the concept of retracting uranium enrichment, stating, “Returning to zero in the nuclear industry is neither logical nor significant.” He also affirmed that the Bushehr plant is under construction with foreign collaboration and highlighted plans for additional nuclear power stations. Iran aims to develop 20,000 megawatts of nuclear power, leveraging the expertise of various countries and companies.

Critique of International Oversight

In his remarks, Eslami criticized Rafael Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), accusing him of pursuing political motivations in his reporting. Eslami argued that Grossi’s tstart reflected biases influenced by his ambitions to become the UN Secretary-General. This came in response to the latest IAEA report indicating that Tehran is not in compliance with its non-proliferation commitments.

Hamas’s Position

Khaled Al-Qiyumi, a representative of Hamas in Tehran, expressed support for a potential nuclear agreement between Iran and the United States, asserting that such an agreement would bolster Iranian support for the Palestinian people. Al-Qiyumi stated, “If a significant country like Iran reaches an agreement with the United States, it will become stronger and better able to assist the Palestinian people.” He emphasized the need for Iran to maintain its independence and freedom from sanctions, positing that any agreement would enhance support for Palestine across political, diplomatic, and economic dimensions.

Al-Qiyumi remarked, “A free and prosperous nation can better understand the suffering of others” and reiterated his full support for the potential Iran-US nuclear agreement, asserting that it would be entirely beneficial for Palestine. Current negotiations between Tehran and Washington are ongoing, with Hamas representatives voicing complete support for efforts to reach a consensus
