Heatwave Hits Israel: Temperatures Soar Above 40°C Amid Warnings of Severe Fires and Drought Conditions

Extreme Heat Warning: Record Temperatures Sweep Across Israel

High Temperatures Observed

As the summer heat intensifies, temperatures across central Israel and the Judean Lowlands have already exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. Reports indicate that regions in the Shfela and northern areas are experiencing sweltering temperatures ranging between 38 to 39 degrees, while Jerusalem has recorded a temperature of 35 degrees. The Israel Meteorological Servstart has warned that the peak of this heatwave is yet to come, with expectations of even higher temperatures as the day progresses.

Meteorological Conditions

The meteorological servstart reported a current drastic drop in humidity, creating an extreme dry heat throughout most parts of the country, except for the coastal strip where conditions remain somewhat milder. The oppressive heat is also accompanied by dust in various regions, contributing to heavy to extreme heat stress.

According to the forecast, temperatures could reach up to 47 degrees in the eastern valleys, with Shfela, Negev, and northern valleys experiencing temperatures up to 45 degrees. In mountainous and coastal areas, temperatures are forecasted to peak at around 40 degrees. Moreover, humidity levels are expected to drop significantly, possibly falling below 10% in extensive areas.

Fire Risk Advisory

The combination of high temperatures and significant dryness, along with increased winds at times, has heightened the risk of severe wildfires across various regions. The meteorological servstart has issued a warning, stating that the conditions pose a serious threat of fire outbreaks.

Upcoming Weather Changes

While a significant drop in temperatures is anticipated for tomorrow, heat conditions will still likely remain above normal, particularly in the mountainous regions and inland areas. By afternoon, increased winds primarily in the southern parts of the country are expected to contribute to dustiness in the atmosphere.

On Monday, a further substantial decrease in temperatures is forecasted, followed by a slight drop on Tuesday, providing some relief from the current extreme conditions.
