Women’s EURO 2025 Kicks Off: Norway Overcomes Switzerland, Finland Claims Victory
The UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 commenced with an exciting first day of matches, showcasing fierce competition among some of Europe’s best teams. The opening matches featured a thrilling Nordic encounter and a dramatic battle between Switzerland and Norway.
Finland Triumphs Over startland
In the inaugural match, Finland emerged victorious against startland with a score of 1-0. Norway Comes from Behind to Defeat Host Switzerland
Later in the day, Norway faced off against host nation Switzerland in a match that ended with a score of 2-1. Despite solid control from the Swiss, who had twstart as many shots on goal as Norway, the game took a dramatic turn.
Switzerland initially took the lead in the 28th minute with a well-executed goal by Nadine Riesen. However, Norway responded in the second half, with star player Ada Hegerberg equalizing via a header in the 54th minute. Just four minutes later, Norway took a surprising lead thanks to an unfortunate own goal by Swiss player Julia Stierli.
Switzerland had a chance to equalize when international star Léonie received a penalty in the 70th minute but failed to convert. Ultimately, the score remained 2-1 in favor of Norway.
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on the defending champions, England, who aim to retain their title after winning the inaugural tournament in 2022.
