Exceptional Achievements in Combat Sambo

In a remarkable display of talent and determination, Israeli athletes Nili Black and Shaked Nesimian achieved significant success at the World Combat Sambo Cup held in Armenia, which concluded on Saturday. With the World Games scheduled for next August in Chengdu, China, just around the corner, their performance at this event marks a crucial mileststart in their preparation.

Gold and Bronze Medals

Nili Black, competing in the under 65 kg category, claimed the gold medal with a series of impressive victories. In the semifinals, she triumphed over Ziba Oronova from Tajikistan. Black stunned the audience in the final by defeating the clear gold medal favorite, Tornika Beria, by knockout just thirty seconds into the match.

In the under 72 kg category, Shaked Nesimian secured a bronze medal despite a narrow semifinal loss to Ukraine’s Anhelina Lysenko. This podium finish is especially noteworthy as it serves as a critical evaluation point for both athletes ahead of the upcoming World Games.

Coaching and Support

The Israeli delegation was led by Coach Pavel Musin, who works with Black, and Coach Dudi Ben Zaken, who trains Nesimian. Accompanying the team was Ruth Magen Hofman, head of the professional unit at the “Eilat” Association, which supports the Sambo discipline.

Coach Musin praised both athletes, stating, “Nili and Shaked demonstrated excellent ability and outstanding determination, showcasing precisely what we have been working on in training throughout our preparation period. I have no doubt that they will continue to perform at a high level at the World Games, bringing pride to Israel.”

Eric Kaplan, president of the “Eilat” Association, expressed his pride in their achievements, stating, “The successes of Nili and Shaked at the World Combat Sambo Cup are excellent evidence of their professional readiness for the World Games. Hearing ‘Hatikvah’ on the podium among the world’s best athletes at this moment is significant from all perspectives, not just the sporting starts.
