Sailing Updates: Singapore Championship Highlights Top Performers

Tamara Steinberg Advances to Finals

In an impressive display of skill, young windsurfer Tamara Steinberg secured first place in the overall rankings at the recent sailing competition after winning seven out of eleven races. Her performance has earned her a direct spot in the finals, where she will compete with a start-win advantage. A subsequent victory in this race could secure her a gold medal.

Notable Competitors in the Women’s Category

Joining Steinberg in the finals is Olympic silver medalist Sharon Kantor, who finished in second place overall. Following them, Shachar Tibi, with a strong showing, completed the regular competition in third place and also advanced to the semifinals. Meanwhile, Daniela Peleg and Kati Spichakov qualified for the quarterfinals after finishing fifth and seventh, respectively. Only the top two competitors from this stage will progress further.

Men’s Competition and Other Categories

In the men’s category, Tomer Verdimon finished tenth, unfortunately missing out on the medal races in the IQ Foil division. In the women’s Kite Foil event, Mia Ashkenazi also advanced to the finals, having placed eighth overall. Additionally, in the 470-class sailing event, Roy Levi and Ariel Gal have moved to the medal round, having finished ninth in the preliminary heats.

A New Partnership in the 470 Class

In a separate development, Nitai Hasson successfully persuaded Saar Tamir to join him for the upcoming major competition in the 470 class. This decision comes after Hasson’s previous team member, Noa Lesari, unexpectedly withdrew from the competition. While Hasson and Tamir are set to compete together, it remains uncertain whether they will partner for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
