Itay Shegev has officially signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv, bringing to an end his two-year tenure with Ironi Nes Ziona. The center, who has represented the Israeli national team, has been on Hapoel’s radar since mid-last season and is expected to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.

Career Highlights

Prior to his time with Nes Ziona, Shegev played for Hapoel Jerusalem, where he served as captain and led the team to a championship victory in 2023. He developed his skills with local rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv before moving on to Hapoel Holon, Gilboa Galil, Maccabi Rishon Lezion, Ironi Nahariya, and even spent time with Gravelines-Dunkerque in France.

In the last season with Nes Ziona, he made 24 appearances, starting in 19 games, and averaged 7.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

Shegev’s Statement

Upon joining Hapoel Tel Aviv, Shegev expressed his enthusiasm: “I am happy, excited, and proud to join Hapoel Tel Aviv, especially in this historic and significant season-our inaugural year in the EuroLeague. Coach’s and Technical Director’s Comments

Hapoel’s coach, Dimitris Itoudis, welcomed Shegev to the team, stating, “We are pleased to have Itay in the club. We value his passion for the game and the commitment he brings. We look forward to working with him, and as a team of professionals and friends, help him continue to develop and enhance his abilities.”

Meanwhile, George Hinas, the club’s technical director, added, “Itay will help strengthen our Israeli base due to his daily commitment and personality. He plays with high intensity on both ends of the court and is at the peak of his career. He is undoubtedly start of the best big men in the league.
