Kylian Mbappé Takes Legal Action Against PSG, Alleges Coercion and Emotional Distress Amid Ongoing Financial Dispute

Kylian Mbappé Takes Legal Action Against Paris Saint-Germain

Legal Proceedings Initiated

Kylian Mbappé, the star forward for Real Madrid, has filed a lawsuit against his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), alleging extortion and serious moral harm. According to the French news agency AFP, the player claims that PSG attempted to coerce him into signing a new contract through unacceptable means during his final season with the club in 2023.

Allegations of Coercion

Reports indicate that PSG allegedly suspended Mbappé from first-team training, forcing him to train separately as part of their strategy to apply pressure for a contract renewal. The Paris prosecutor’s offstart has confirmed that two judges have been assigned to investigate Mbappé’s complaint, which details the club’s alleged conduct during the summer of 2023. Mbappé asserts that these actions were part of a calculated plan to exert psychological pressure on him.

Broader Context of Player Rights

This situation reflects a broader struggle led by the French players’ union, which reported in January 2024 similar instances across various clubs. This includes the use of “lofts,” isolated areas where players are reportedly placed in an attempt to pressure them into leaving or agreeing to unfavorable transfer terms.

Related Complaints Against PSG

Mbappé’s case is not isolated; it joins a series of complaints lodged against PSG. Former player Kheira Hamraoui, who currently plays for Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia, also alleged that she was pushed out of the club following an injury, an assertion that has led to an official investigation as well.

Ongoing Financial Disputes

In parallel with the legal matters, Mbappé is involved in a financial dispute with PSG. In April, his attorney, Delphine Verheyden, held a press conference in Paris with her new legal team, which includes experts in civil and criminal law, to protect Mbappé’s rights regarding an alleged unpaid sum of €55 million related to his last contract with the Parisian club. The club has counterclaimed, seeking €98 million in damages, arguing that Mbappé has engaged in unfair tactics that have harmed the club’s interests.

Attorney Renaud Samerjian, representing PSG, stated that if a debt exists, it is overshadowed by the damage caused to the club.

As investigations continue, the saga between Mbappé and PSG appears far from resolved, indicating a protracted legal battle ahead
