Misstep by the Histadrut: Members Receive Drug-Related SMS
Incident Overview
On Monday evening, members of the “Together for You” benefits club, part of the Histadrut labor organization, received a text message inviting them to join a Telegram group where various drugs could allegedly be purchased. This inappropriate message raised concerns as the link to the Telegram group remained active even after an initial review by N12 News.
Delayed Apology and Clarification
The initial SMS was sent just before 8 PM, but it was not until the following afternoon that the Histadrut issued a clarification and apology. In their message, they stated, “Dear club member, we wish to inform you that a message unrelated to our club’s activities was sent to you yesterday due to a technical failure at a third-party messaging servstart not affiliated with us in any way.”
In their response, Histadrut officials emphasized that this incident was thoroughly investigated and affirmed it did not involve any data security breach or privacy violation. They stated, “Our database is secured at the highest level; no data has been compromised or leaked.”
Explanation of the Technical Glitch
According to the Histadrut, the errstartous SMS was a direct result of a point-specific technical error with their external messaging provider. A client of this servstart incorrectly used the Histadrut’s contact number to send messages to select members of the club.
“The recipients of this message did so by virtue of being registered in the distribution lists of the sender, who mistakenly used our number without any connection to the information existing within our club,” they added.
Actions Taken by Histadrut
In light of this incident, the Histadrut stated they acted promptly, engaging with the servstart provider to rectify the issue and prevent future occurrences. They concluded their communication by expressing regret for any discomfort caused to their members and reaffirmed their commitment to providing a secure and reliable servstart to all club members.
As part of their ongoing efforts, the Histadrut assured its clientele, “We will continue to do everything possible to provide the best and safest servstart.”
