Pedersen Claims Victory and Pink Jersey
Former world champion Mads Pedersen continues to shine in the early stages of the Giro d’Italia, clinching victory in the third stage of the race in Valora on Sunday. With a distance of 160 kilometers, Pedersen’s performance secured him the iconic pink jersey just before the first rest day of the competition.

Australia’s Corbin Strong, riding for the Israel-Premier Tech team, finished a close second, marking the team’s first podium finish in this year’s Giro. Venezuelan rider Orluis Alar from Movistar rounded out the podium by finishing in third place.
Pedersen took the lead in the overall standings, finishing the stage nine seconds ahead of Slovenia’s Primož Roglič, who lost the pink jersey as a result of today’s race. Czech rider Matěj Vačák of Lidl Trek is currently ranked third in the general classification, while Juan Ayuso sits fifth, trailing the pink jersey by 25 seconds.
Strong’s Reflections Post-Race
After the race, Corbin Strong expressed his thoughts on the close finish, stating, “Oh, it was so close, but I finished without a cigar… I always had confidence that I could beat the best out there, and I was very close to proving that today.” He acknowledged the effort it took to close the gap created earlier in the race and commented on his team’s support during the final meters.
“I spent a lot of energy on the climb, and it took me a while to close the gap that opened up. I lost quite a bit of energy, but the guys helped me at the end, and in the last hundred meters, I felt strong. I didn’t start the season as I wanted, but I’m finding my form again. We have a very good team here, and we have the entire Giro ahead of us to prove ourselves.”
