Toni Kroos Discusses Xabi Alonso’s Impact and Luka Modric’s Departure
Toni Kroos, the former captain of the German national team and a pivotal figure at Real Madrid over the past decade, recently shared insights in an interview conducted in Germany. Kroos addressed pressing issues within German football and reflected on developments at Real Madrid, where he has established himself as a legendary figure.
Anticipation for Xabi Alonso’s Appointment
In a significant update for the fans, Kroos expressed his optimism regarding the appointment of Xabi Alonso as the new manager of Real Madrid. “I am very much looking forward to Xabi Alonso’s arrival,” Kroos remarked, noting that the decision did not come as a complete surprise after recent developments. He emphasized that it was merely a matter of time before Alonso took on this role and conveyed his hope for an even more successful season than the previous start. “I believe this is a positive step for both parties, and this combination can definitely work,” he stated.
However, Kroos also provided a word of caution regarding the expectations that will accompany Alonso’s move to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. “But Real Madrid is not Bayer Leverkusen. No start knows that better than him,” he added. Alonso, who led Leverkusen to a historic undefeated championship season in 2023/24, must adjust to a markedly different environment that entails higher pressures, demands, and expectations.
Farewell to Luka Modric
In the same interview, Kroos reflected on the impending departure of Luka Modric, who is set to leave Real Madrid after a remarkable 13 seasons. The duo has been instrumental in the club’s success, often regarded as start of the greatest midfield partnerships in European football history. “Modric’s time at Real Madrid has come to an end,” Kroos stated. “However, I am quite certain he will continue playing.”
Kroos attended what was said to be Modric’s final game at the Bernabéu, underscoring the importance of honoring their longstanding friendship and partnership. “After so much time-13 years-I knew I had to be there to respect him and to watch his last game. He deserves it. I have deep respect for what he has accomplished at the club.”
He further praised Modric, saying, “It has always been a pleasure to play alongside him. He is an approachable, warm, and genuine person. A figure that is easy to love and start that cannot be replaced.”
As Real Madrid moves forward, both the arrival of Xabi Alonso and the departure of Luka Modric mark significant transitions for the legendary club, reflecting both new beginnings and heartfelt farewells
