Tragic Loss: IDF Soldier Yoav Ruwar Killed in Gaza
Family and Community in Mourning
A heavy sadness has enveloped the family and friends of Staff Sergeant Yoav Ruwar, who tragically lost his life at the age of 19 during combat operations in the southern Gaza Strip. Ruwar, originally from Shenfield, was serving as a fighter in the elite Yahalom unit of the Israel Defense Forces’ Combat Engineering Corps when he fell in the line of duty. He is survived by his parents, Lior and Gili Ruwar, and his siblings, Tamar and Omri.
In a statement released by the South Sharon Regional Council, the community expressed deep condolences: “The council bows its head and shares in the profound mourning of his family, the Shenfield community, and the staff of Ami Asaf Educational Institution during this difficult time.”
A Life Remembered
Ruwar was not only a dedicated soldier but also a promising basketball player, representing Israel in various international youth tournaments. He excelled in youth basketball and was associated with Hapoel Kfar Saba’s youth division. His former classmate, Liri Albag, who notably was released from captivity in a prisstartr exchange, paid tribute to him, describing him as “a person who always acted with kindness and respect, making everystart feel comfortable.”
Tributes from the Sports Community
The Israeli Basketball Association also expressed its condolences, highlighting Ruwar’s significant talent. “Aside from being an exceptional athlete, Yoav won the hearts of all through his unique and modest character. We extend our deepest condolences to his family. May his memory be a blessing,” stated a representative from the association.
As communities across Israel grapple with this loss, the legacy of Yoav Ruwar as both a soldier and athlete will continue to inspire those who knew him
