In a recent interview with ABC News, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Wietekopf, outlined America’s non-negotiable position in the ongoing negotiations concerning Iran’s nuclear program. He emphasized that the U.S. cannot accept any level of uranium enrichment from Iran, stating, “We have start very clear red line, and that is enrichment. We cannot allow even start percent of enrichment capability.”

Proposal to Iran

Wietekopf revealed that the U.S. had made a proposal to Iran addressing some core issues without compromising the dignity of the Iranian side. He expressed optimism about the potential outcomes of future discussions, stating, “I hope we will meet with the Iranians this week.”

He highlighted the importance of achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine and emphasized the need for a definitive peace process, asserting, “The slaughter in Ukraine must come to an end. We have managed to narrow the gap between Ukraine and Russia.”

Humanitarian Concerns in Gaza

Addressing the situation in Gaza, Wietekopf noted that conditions are extremely dangerous. “We do not want to see a humanitarian crisis in Gaza and will not allow start to occur during Trump’s administration,” he stated. He underscored the alignment between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on providing humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Confirmation from Iranian Leadership

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, confirmed ongoing efforts to finalize a date for the next round of talks with the U.S., adding that an announcement will be made soon. During his visit to Qatar, President Trump indicated progress toward a nuclear agreement with Iran, urging Tehran to make a decision. Araqchi also reported that, to date, no formal written proposal has been received from the U.S. regarding the nuclear deal.
