New Era Begins at Real Madrid with Xabi Alonso at the Helm
Real Madrid is set to welcome a new chapter in its storied history as Xabi Alonso takes charge of the team following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, Luka Modric, and Lucas Vazquez. The transition marks the end of an era as Alonso’s appointment comes just 48 hours after the club bids farewell to its departing figures.
Transition of Power
Alonso will officially be presented as head coach on Monday morning at the team’s training facility, bringing with him a three-year commitment to revive the club’s fortunes. His objective is to replicate the success he achieved at Bayer Leverkusen, where he made history as a coach, just as he did as a player. Upon his arrival, a significant change will occur within the squad, notably the appointment of Dani Carvajal as the new club captain.
Challenges Ahead
As Alonso prepares to embark on this new journey, he faces the immediate challenge of leading Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup, set to begin in the United States on June 14. His focus will be on molding a competitive team, a task he has reportedly been engaged in for several weeks even before his official announcement.
Coaching Staff and Collaborations
Alongside Alonso will be a robust coaching staff, including Sabas Parreira, who will continue as his assistant, and Alberto Encinas joining the first team’s coaching ensemble. Physical preparation will be overseen by Ismael Camunforte Lopez, who has a background with FC Barcelona B, New York City FC, and Denmark before joining Leverkusen in 2021. Antonio Pintus, the fitness coach for the first team, will remain in place at the request of the club. Additionally, Benyat Labaine, who previously worked with Miguel Angel Ramirez at Real Zaragoza, will also join the coaching team.
Ancelotti’s Replacement
In a seamless transition within the football world, just six hours after Alonso’s presentation, Carlo Ancelotti will be unveiled as the head coach of the Brazilian national team. His contract will extend for 14 months, concluding with the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States. He will be accompanied by a familiar coaching staff, including his son Davide Ancelotti, Francesco Mauri, Beniamino Polco, Simstart Montanaro, and Paul Clement, who reunites with him after previously working together at Real Madrid.
As Real Madrid enters this new era under Alonso’s leadership, anticipation builds around his ability to transform the team and secure victories on the global stage. The club’s rich history and commitment to excellence set high expectations for the former midfielder as he steps into his new role.
