Government Appoints David Zini as Head of Shabak Amid Calls for Swift Approval

Special Cabinet Meeting Declares New Appointment

In a special cabinet meeting held on Jerusalem Day in the City of David, the Israeli government announced the appointment of Major General David Zini as the new head of the Shabak (Israeli Security Agency). The meeting included an official declaration urging all relevant parties to expedite the approval process for this crucial appointment.

During the session, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed support for Zini’s nomination, emphasizing the need for a permanent head of Shabak, particularly during times of conflict. “The government views the appointment of a permanent Shabak head as critical in a time of war and calls not to resort to a temporary placeholder,” the statement highlighted.

Urgent Call to Remove Obstacles

The government’s declaration included a three-point statement welcoming Netanyahu’s intention to appoint Zini. It urged stakeholders to “remove the obstacles and expedite the process necessary for the security of Israel,” showcasing the urgency attached to the decision amid ongoing security challenges.

Focus on Jerusalem Development

In conjunction with the Shabak appointment, Netanyahu reiterated the government’s commitment to Jerusalem’s development. “By virtue of our historical right over Jerusalem, we are presenting a series of decisions concerning the continued development of the city for all its residents,” he stated.

He noted that efforts in recent years have included promoting recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and encouraging foreign embassies to relocate there. “We are investing billions of shekels in preserving Jerusalem’s heritage sites, as well as in infrastructure, housing, transportation, employment, education, healthcare, culture, religious life, and tourism,” Netanyahu added.

The emphasis on Jerusalem development comes as part of the broader vision to reinforce the city’s status and improve the quality of life for its residents.
